@johnnyg4grace @JimLincoln1517 @RefDogmatika That's what I meant by sounding antinomian. We need to be careful we don't blend the offer. As far as LS, I believe Piper's understanding of justification is wrong. Mac's book TGosAJesus is not gospel, although I do believe him to be orthodox, just wrong on that point.
@JWayneH7 @JimLincoln1517 @RefDogmatika Those are popular things to say by modern “marrow men” guys. But Sinclair Ferguson (the guy) says when people use the marrow to apply to whether repentance is necessary or to Christ’s Lordship they are missing the point. Brother, can you give specifics on Piper and Macarthur?
@JWayneH7 @JimLincoln1517 @RefDogmatika I mean give me instances where they are teaching falsely on these issues. Please not what some other guy says. Blessings
@johnnyg4grace @JimLincoln1517 @RefDogmatika From book. Hatred of sin comes after regeneration. If it's tied to coming to Christ you will always wonder if you are saved because you don't hate sin enough. He believes in grace alone, I think by combating antinomians, he over corrects.
@JWayneH7 @JimLincoln1517 @RefDogmatika Who wrote this? Which book?
@johnnyg4grace @JimLincoln1517 @RefDogmatika That excerpt is from GosAcctoJesus. JM
@JWayneH7 @JimLincoln1517 @RefDogmatika MacArthur isn’t dealing with justification in this book but more broadly with salvation. Which is a biblical thing to do. This is a very polemical book dealing with gross error. But as you explained, you always see justification as synonymous with salvation.
@johnnyg4grace @JimLincoln1517 @RefDogmatika This is another excerpt that isn't helpful. How much must I love and obey to confirm my salvation?
@JWayneH7 @JimLincoln1517 @RefDogmatika “Confirming” our salvation by “practicing” the growing graces in our lives is God’s idea (2 Peter 1:10). How much? “Make every effort” is what He says (vs. 5). Asking those kinds of questions hints of a legal spirit.
@johnnyg4grace @JimLincoln1517 @RefDogmatika That is my point, if I am a new believer and I read that, what am I going to ask myself? Do I have enough fruit to prove I am saved? The way they present it pushes people towards legalism or having a legal view of God.
@JWayneH7 @JimLincoln1517 @RefDogmatika I understand your point, brother. I would really recommend reading the older reformed guys. Marshall’s book on sanctification is a classic, really helpful. Read Calvin.
