Contrary to popular stereotypes, leadership is not barking orders and telling everyone what to do. In my new course on @MasterClass I teach how to lead by listening and building relationships. Masterclass.com/jocko
@jockowillink @MasterClass The fact that you deleted the previous one to correct "is" tells me you yourself handle your accounts.
Great stuff Jocko The majority of ailments in business and life come from people being in positions where they are expected to lead, yet lack leadership skills, self awareness, and self worth. Anarchy and/or disorganization ensue. Sometimes leadership means leading from the front, sometimes it means (appearing) to fall in line, or sometimes it requires sitting back and silently, yet effectively, guiding people to work together and maximize their collective contributions and the outcome. It isn’t for the faint of heart and it isn’t for feeding the ego. Sometimes you have to allow egg on your face in order for the people you lead to coalesce. May favorite example of this was an old balck and white Navy movie where the captain asked his sailors to build him a boat in the middle of deployment so he could have some enjoyment. His officers didn’t understand what he was doing and questioned him. Eventually they realized the crew stopped channeling their frustrations at each other and instead they came together to be mad at the captain. At the end of the day, they came together, which is always ultimately the goal.
@jockowillink @MasterClass Absolutely, leadership is about more than just giving orders. It's rooted in listening and building relationships. Your dedication to teaching these crucial aspects in your course is commendable, and I'm sure it will make a significant impact. 🙌👏
@jockowillink @an_arizonan @MasterClass Love the quote that I once heard about there being established leadership- you join the ranks and therefore you’ve ‘earned’ this respect. The other form is a two way straight of respect, you give the respect to get the respect. That’s a true leader.
