Imagine if maths was taught as an art. Students would be invited to play and explore patterns & learn mathematical relationships, with no tracking, sorting or testing. We would replace fear with curiosity, equity & a love of all mathematical ideas. #Limitless
@joboaler Unlike art, maths edu is considered so important and central that the ecosystem stops you fixing it to have these critical attributes...!
@joboaler @msmakemathsense I knew we were onto something @msmakemathsense & @cbmoe. If @joboaler is speaking about it I think we’re hitting a home run with our UDL Mathematical Art Investigations! #sd60 #bcedchat #mathisfun #iteachmath #mathisnotaworksheet #bced #Mindset
@joboaler Agreed. Here's a drawing program I created based on fractal math. edworlds.com/fractal_drawin…
@joboaler @jeffreykubiak The Art of Mathematics. Love it! 😍🙌🏼
@joboaler If you think art is taught without fear I wish I could introduce you to my sixth grade teacher. The one who told me I couldn't possibly be so bad at drawing, I must be doing it on purpose to spite her.
@joboaler Genuine question. I was taught music in a way that invited me to play and explore. I used to fear music as I felt I didn't know what was going on. I was taught maths in a structured and systematic way that built my skills and knowledge over time.(1/2)
@joboaler I LOVE this - but I believe the whole curriculum should be torn apart and taught conceptually - the way we learn. We don’t learn concepts in isolation - everything is connected.
@joboaler @pchunmath I teach math as art!!!!!
@joboaler So many great combinations of Art and Math. Checkout @ArtOfMathEd artofmathed.wixsite.com/educate/books
