Is America in a shadow war with Russia? theweek.com/russo-ukrainia… via @TheWeek
@jlounsbury59 @TheWeek Russia has been in a shadow war with us since Putin went to Bush jr with hat in hand asking for our help.
@jlounsbury59 @TheWeek If the US doesn’t stand up to dictators with territorial aspirations, then aren’t we just back to the 1930’s. Both Russia and China have made the bet we are weak, but it is quite clear it is they who are economically weak, which should impact their geopolitical aspirations.
@jlounsbury59 @TheWeek We're trying to stop Russian aggression now instead of later.
@jlounsbury59 @TheWeek Russian arguments that 'the west' is using Ukraine as a proxy war with them, ignore they invaded. But, if there's some truth to it, flip the argument to China. Because it's really China who benefits from Russia's military demise. Russia has more in common with us than China.
@jlounsbury59 @TheWeek Anyone remember the term "Iron Curtain"? How about Cuban missile crisis? Most of my life the U.S. has been on alert status with the U.S.S.R. or Russia. The recent kinder, gentler Russia is relatively new. Trakhni tebya, Putin!
@jlounsbury59 @TheWeek Throughout its history Russia’s existential goals were achieved through conquest, regardless of governing philosophy. Especially in times of reduced tensions, Russia was playing the long game anticipating its next geopolitical move. Now in defeat it is merely positioning.
