White people and others who aren't decedents of American slavery & Jim Crow need to understand that I'm not asking for their permission or approval wrt reparations any more than Native Americans or Holocaust survivors or interred Japanese Americans hinged their moral and legal right to restitution on the small, uninformed opinions of those who benefited from their oppression.

I believe in reparations but with this particular candidate, she could not explain any pathway to making it happen. For me, that part is important. Not disagreeing with what you said, but I think candidates need to go beyond saying they support it. How will it happen, especially knowing there is very little support for it.
@jemelehill @briebriejoy @VanLathan Dear Jemele: Why should people who had nothing to do with the atrocity of slavery be forced to pay the descendents of victims of wickedness? I didn't commit or condone this abomination. This seemingly only perpetuates the racial divide in America. Respectfully, Matt
Dear Matt: You think of your “benefit” in only material terms. You have benefited from systems in some way that has prioritized, centered and given the benefit of the doubt to whiteness. The Irish connected themselves to whiteness, as did the Italians and others. That is why they are looked upon as white in current society. Also, you had nothing to do with the freedoms Americans currently enjoy, but you have no problem taking part in that benefit. If we want to take part in the victories, but not the atrocities, don’t you think that’s a little hypocritical?
@jemelehill @TheMattCanada @briebriejoy @VanLathan You know Matt is correct?
@jemelehill @TheMattCanada @briebriejoy @VanLathan Well said Jemel.
@jemelehill @TheMattCanada @briebriejoy @VanLathan Isn’t it a pretty presumptuous statement that he has done nothing for the freedoms he enjoys? What if he fought in war for this country?
@jemelehill @TheMattCanada @briebriejoy @VanLathan So, how do black VP’s or high-powered black attorney’s exist? Did they just get lucky? Or are they identifying as white? You see how your entire rationale for reparations fails under this simple question.
