Stars aligning for a weekend deep diving into #M1 malware research (blue and red team). Thanks @dotnet for releasing .NET 6 Preview 1 before the weekend. Building Macho ARM64 binaries with C# will make it a very pleasant and productive effort.

Early results of a #RNN based #IDS /w ngrams - logically reducing the extracted # of bytes instead of the entire packet produces significantly faster throughput, however the level of FPs is huge if you go < 400 bytes. Curious how these results will be on a more myopic test set.

The more I dive into #ML for #CyberSecurity, the more I find myself coming to the realization there are so many use cases in this field with relatively simple solutions that would net a huge impact on our society. The big problem I face now is choosing just 1 for my dissertation.

Getting an IPS Blocked Threat Email always reminds me of why spending money on a nice IPS is not a luxury, but in this day and age a requirement. Folks seem to focus on the physical security of their homes and not the digital.

Another weekend deep dive into #ml.net, this time with k-means clustering. Was surprised at how fast both training of a model & predictions were until diving into the math behind the algorithm/looking at the source on GitHub. I see huge potential for a variety of applications.

Spent my Saturday deep diving into SDCA with #ML.NET. First time doing non-binary classifications, surprisingly easy to create a simply regression model and subsequent prediction. Highly recommend C# devs curious about ML to checkout ML.NET.

Something to be said about doing "simple" tasks like hand washing your car instead of sitting inside of #visualstudio or white boarding. While washing my car I figured out a cleaner way to implement an architecture for my #rabbitmq and #AspNetCore #ML r&d project.

Anyone else seeing .NET 4.7.1 apps on rs5 build 17554.1 not picking up the fact .NET 4.7.2 is installed? Can repro it with just the built in WPF template in VS2017 and setting it to 4.7.1. #dotnet #WindowsInsiders

A feature in #Csharp that would be beneficial when using a lib that throws unexpected exceptions when accessing properties is a null coalescing-esq exception check on a property so you wouldn't need to have a literal try/catch, but instead an exception fall back value in 1 line.

Finally scratched off a backlog item of deep diving into #Win2D (github.com/Microsoft/Win2D) this weekend. Outside of the way resources are loaded (makes making a ResourceManager class interesting to say the least), its pretty quick to dive into and performs better than #MonoGame.

Making good progress on the first of (hopefully) many #Vulkan tutorials done with C#. The first tutorial gives an overview of Vulkan and how to enumerate Physical Devices on a system. Should have it posted Saturday - stay tuned.

Going through old boxes today and uncovered my primary hard drive from 1996. Sadly, while the hard drive spins up, I was unable to read any partitions off of it. Unfortunate as it would have contained some of my early Visual Basic 4.0 apps that I do not have copies of anymore.

2017 flew by, but achieved a decent amount with over 1100 commits to my #github repos on evenings/weekends, completed my Masters in Cyber & Information Security in addition to deep diving into #Vulkan. Looking forward to continuing onto a doctorate & contributing more in 2018.
