No-one asked about price. I had a couple of people respond with “I already have a website” which means their google business profile wasn’t up to date. I had one person ask why they’d want a website when they have Facebook/insta, I asked them to google their cafe name and look at how many review sites have info about them they don’t own or control.
I’m sharing a story here about failure, we don’t see many of these. I started an experiment to build a business that ran itself. Found leads, contacted them, responded and sold to them. The idea was simple, websites for cafes that they can update just using ChatGPT or Claude. Optimised for things like menus and reviews and sharing. The idea was that it would use google business api to find regional cafes without a website, scan their socials, and build a sample/demo site all on its own and then send a link with a message and then monitor if it was clicked. Functionally it worked. I thought it was good if not a little cookie cutter, but these businesses had no presence so for a few dollars a month they’d have something. 2900 businesses scanned 111 demo sites built 146 messages sent 11 replies Zero interest On 13 Aug I pulled it all down after one exchange where the conversation was escalated to me after the lead started accusing me of being dishonest because I was using AI. I said “Hi, as a small business owner I have no choice but to automate. It's something I would expect you to be doing too. AI used? Yep, no question. Was I dishonest? No. Being sceptical of AI is the right pathway, but I'm offering a legit service. Thanks for responding. I'll take the site down and you won't hear from me again.” Maybe I’m too thin skinned - but that was after 100+ demo sites and not even a warm response. I wish I had a moral to share, something meaningful - but I think all I learned is that the tech is the easy part still. I’m not necessarily looking for feedback on the idea, but if you have a story to share then please do so.

This is a really good example, thanks for sharing. Customers are generally bad at explaining their process, they don’t think in gates and steps and that’s obvious here. The value you’re providing is hearing what he’s dismissing. Like he said they can’t code the invoices automatically but that’s a clear case for automation.
@jimboot @tonysimons_ @witcheer This is my day now. Each tile is a separate task (conversation/session) on one or more projects. The tiles move from lane to lane automatically. The descriptions of each conversation are written by the AI. I click a tile to zoom, update, move on.

@matthias_mrc I've fallen into this trap. My mindset is now "I'll build this for me cause i need it" rather than "I'll build this to sell to the world".
Has anyone built (or is using) a mission control type dashboard for their work with claude code? Something that makes it easier to see across multiple sessions? Tab switching feels a bit 1986 doesn't it?

My feed is all "what should I build?", as if we're all shipping a SaaS. 18 months, 5 builds I needed and thought others would too, every one ending in frustration. So I'm pivoting: AI isn't my shot at the next big SaaS, it's my shot at building exactly what I need, for me.

@jimboot I think it's agents talking to agents. The concept of a trditional ecomm site has a limited life. I'll have my agent and you'll have yours and they'll talk to each other and to the seller and transact for us.
