I recently had a paper published by the Journal of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing, about my experiences of harm in mental health services; how this caused me to self-discharge; and my life now as a "service-avoider". It's available here: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/jp…
If you can't access it via the journal, I have uploaded a pdf of the pre-print to my researchgate account, here: researchgate.net/publication/37…
@jaunty_aphorism @ConnConnection I really want to read this and forward it around but it is blocked by a pay wall.
@jaunty_aphorism Thank you, thank you, thank you for writing this.
@jaunty_aphorism As a service avoider myself this resonates with me. More often than not avoiding services is safer than being involved with them
@jaunty_aphorism It is such a powerful piece that will resonate so much with so many, Wren. I have shared it with my colleagues in @LJMU_Health ( @LJMUNursing , @LJMUCounsPsyPr and @LJMUPsychology ) it is too important not to share.
@jaunty_aphorism I bookmarked to read. Very interested in service-avoider” rather than “service-resistant”. I’m a clinician. Last year working w/“resisters” taught me the word resistant is often a deflection of legit systemic issues on to people who’ve been hurt & are, yes, avoiding more of same.
@jaunty_aphorism Sadly a wonderful piece…mental health workers should ALL read this, check their own practice and colleagues, create space for change. Nothing with us, without us. TY Wren. 💗
