[RCADE's Story] Thank you to everyone who has tried @rcade_co so far. We have seen amazing support from our burgeoning community - 128 Remixes made with 291 Stems from 93 new users in 72 hours. Now that we are a few days post-launch, I would like to share the journey so far. This has been in the works for a long time (3+ years) which makes the release that much sweeter. Going back in time — I started my music career in finance at Warner Music Group. While working there (Atlantic Records specifically) I met my now-cofounder Edward Quintero. I sent him a cold email, letting him know about a plan I'd hatched to build a “virtual music artist” from the ground up. Edward is an expert in virtual production, having worked on video games, movies, television, and more, so I was shocked when he actually replied and was interested. Fast forward a year to 2021. I was working from home at my parents house and growing the independent record label I co-founded. I had moved back home from NYC due to Covid. I was also working with Edward and Mikul Wing of @AutografMusic to bring the virtual artist idea to life. Somewhere along the line we realized that building a virtual world around a virtual artist with a virtual career would be very expensive. Funding options for a project like this are few and far between. We needed a product. In 2022, during a trip to LA, I was standing in Edward's office trying to plan our next move. Mikul is a DJ, Edward is an expert with Unreal Engine 5. The answer: some sort of music-based game. As a quick aside — I enjoyed producing some awful music with a cracked version of FL Studio in my free time back in the day. Because I was a trash producer, I defaulted to making bootleg remixes that I showed to absolutely no one. I had observed the immense popularity of bootlegs/mashups on Soundcloud during that golden age and couldn't get enough. I include this note because at the time of the brainstorming session, user-edited music (slowed, sped up, mashups, etc) was just starting to blow up on TikTok and spill over to illegal uploads on streaming platforms. The idea came to me all at once: how do we create a fun way for anyone to create licensed remixes in a gamified way with no music knowledge required? And thus, RCADE was born. I had some self-taught python knowledge, but that was all. My days of music production and music theory made me realize that with the right audio engine, we could abstract away the technical elements of remixing and democratize creation. I committed to learning React and Web Audio API to build the MVP. This was a LONG journey that is still going today. Part of the challenge with the idea of open remixing is metadata, rights, and proper attribution. To solve this, I had also begun looking into the Flow Blockchain to help streamline these aspects. I started watching Cadence (Flow's bespoke coding language) YouTube tutorials to implement a consistent attribution and royalty disbursement system. Who was making these videos? The legend himself, @jacobmtucker , of course. I quickly realized learning Cadence, React, Web Audio, SQL, and other skills was not a good use of time. I was in over my head. I reached out to Jacob Tucker via Discord — shooting my shot, hoping he liked my idea and perhaps had the bandwidth to help. Jacob said he liked the project but didn't have time to help. I assumed he was letting me down easy. However, I was surprised several months later to learn that he wanted to build the blockchain infra out for us, and that he DID really like the idea. I had built a CRUDE demo at this point, and I think that after trying it out, he saw the vision. Fast wayyy forward to 2025. After a pre-launch funding effort that yielded much knowledge and connections but no cash, I resolved to power through the build on my own and get this in the hands of artists and fans. I had onboarded an advisor, Riley Knapp, and we had solidified the vision for the product. Jacob had joined @StoryProtocol, which we immediately recognized as a perfect fit for RCADE, but again was too busy to contribute much. Finally, a month ago, our opportunity arose. Jacob called me out of nowhere, telling me excitedly that we had a great chance to contribute to an upcoming remix contest powered by Story, hosted by @Aria_Protocol , and with music by NANA. This resulted in a several-week sprint, many late nights, and a clinic in development by Jacob. And as of this week, we launched. There is so much more to this journey and many more people to thank. There is also so much work to do, and so many plans for branching into more digital spaces like video games and virtual worlds. We are just getting started.

In the age of AI, ownership and provenance are becoming the foundation of culture. Story exists to make that future possible, empowering builders to create, share, and own what they make. Aria is proof of that vision in motion. What began as a bold idea has become a thriving project reimagining music ownership. Soon, it’ll power programmable IP, with $ARIAIP as the first native IPRWA token on Story. Belief is contagious. Own the iconic.
