In discussions on X about why I left my faith, I encounter many who share the joy of their personal relationship with Jesus. I explain that in the 50 yrs of belief I never experienced a personal relationship with Jesus. They then tell me I had unrealistic expectations.
@hookskat ... because you were never a "true" believer in the first place. Just more faith-invoking self-aggrandizement.
@hookskat I left my faith. Then came back. I was too smart to believe the specifics. So I left. I needed experience to understand the broad strokes, so eventually I came back. Not as a believer in specifics, but as a believer in the underlying, very human, truths.
@hookskat How can they have a personal relationship with someone who died a very long time ago? If anything, that's very weird.
@hookskat Did anyone tell you that 50 years is nothing, and you should have been more patient?
@hookskat All religions are gods are fictional. You can’t have a relationship with a fictional character. All one need do to show the ridiculous nature of religion is to switch names. Have a personal relationship with Marduk? Mbombo? Baal? Zeus? Why not? Aren’t they gods too?
