Do you know how many assistant coaches are in the @ProFootballHOF? Zero. Here’s my case for Spags. Let’s get him in there. #Chiefs @ArrowheadPride
@heykayadams @ProFootballHOF @ArrowheadPride Look up the 2012 Saints defense.
@heykayadams @ProFootballHOF @ArrowheadPride Does LeBeau doesn’t count? He spent most of his career as a D coordinator
@heykayadams @ProFootballHOF @ArrowheadPride Let’s not…and say we did. Here’s what I would support 1000%: Coach Spags being the heir apparent, contractually, to Andy Reid. Seamless transition. Already has the Chiefs’ respect. Just allow Patrick Mahomes control of the offense like Brady largely had later in his career.
@heykayadams @ProFootballHOF @ArrowheadPride People should still be talking about Spags from Sunday. He was the MVP.
@heykayadams @ProFootballHOF @ArrowheadPride Agreed and it’s a shame he wasn’t even nominated for assistant coach of the year
@heykayadams @ProFootballHOF @ArrowheadPride He fully deserves it. 4 rings while facing #1 teams.
I never knew that. I find that to be quite astonishing. A head coach is a very different level of responsibility. Ther are coaches out there that are so good at their craft and specialists and just are better only focusing on. Head coach largely is about putting the right people in the right place. If Devin Hester can get in. Spags should get in
Hard Pass. For starters, there are NFL head coaches with multiple rings like Mike Shanahan and George Seifert who are not in the NFL HOF. And to be honest, allowing assistants to make the HOF would be one step closer to descending into the Naismith HOF. The NBA has had only 4,500 total players in its history, yet almost 200 NBA players are in the hall of fame - 4% of all players. For the NFL, that ratio is currently 25,000:300 - 1% of all players. And I know the premise isn’t about players but the point is that the NFL HOF retains respect because of strong ratios such as the one I provided — a ratio that comes from high standards, which Steve Spagnuolo meets. But also, a ratio that adheres to strict criteria on one’s role. Adjusting the criteria to put Spagnuolo and past and future assistants in would dilute the NFL personnel to NFL HOF ratio which would then lower the respect for the NFL HOF. And the final result would be an undermining of all the people already in the NFL HOF who met the initial rigorous standard and criteria.
