#otd 1886: pianist Mathilde Verne (Wurm) graduates from Clara Schumann's class in Frankfurt where she has studied with the sponsorship of piano manufacturers Broadwood & Sons. A noted concert pianist, she goes on to found her Mathilde Verne Pianoforte School in London in 1909.
#otd 1739: 18yo composer & harpsichordist Maria Teresa Agnesi (m. Pinottini) performs at a salon at her family's palazzo on Via Pantano in Milan to an audience of guests from across Europe. Her sister Maria Gaetana (21), a famous polymath, disputes with them on scientific topics.

Harriet Hosmer, b. #OTD in 1830, was one of a group of American expatriate women sculptors who lived & worked in Rome. Her #Neoclassical works below focus on historical women: Zenobia in Chains, Beatrice Cenci, & a bust of Medusa. #WhiteMarmoreanFlock
Studing #medieval liturgical manuals, I came across Gisela von Kerssenbrock († 1300), cantrix of the #Cistercian convent of Rulle. She played an important role in the creation of the #nuntastic Golden Graduale (Osnabrück, Ma 101) in which she is depicted twice. #medievalArt
