how it feels getting replies like "everyone loved bioshock infinite for years, stop pointlessly hating"
bioshock infinite reviewed well but it launched a massive, vibrant wave of games criticism that you now almost entirely can't read because all the blogs and websites don't exist aymore and charitably 1 in 20 of those people are still around working actively in this sphere
@headfallsoff Maybe the most highly visible critical take on it ever put into the world was put out barely two months after release, whatever one thinks of Matosis or the specific perspective therein. Certainly not as if he invented skepticism toward it, either.
@headfallsoff I loved it at launch, but everyone definitely did not love it. It was compared unfavorably to the first 2, and it launched the phrase "ludonarrative dissonance" into games discourse.
@headfallsoff that review people are always reposting that ends with "thankfully the entire world is erased from existence and nothing of consequence ever happens" came out like two weeks after the game lol
@headfallsoff It's so odd because I remember every YouTuber I was watching at the time include it in their worst/most disappointing games of the year and even the guys who would normally never bring up politics brought up how bad the games politics were and how unfun the actual gameplay was.
@headfallsoff I remember liking the gameplay itself but hating the story the moment I got past the first act
@headfallsoff I must be Joe Biden the way I forgot about that
