Unpopular opinion: this is actually a good UI
I got my copies of the book, the rest went to the warehouse. We'll start shipping this week I imagine. Looks like the lay-flat binding is doing it's job. The lay-flat binding cost an extra 26 cents per book if you're wondering how badly you're getting screwed by big publishers.
Just started working through the @haskellbook. So far so good. Looking forward to gaining a much better understanding of #haskell haskellbook.com
Deployed a minor (admin-side) bug fix and a copy change for Lorepub.com
If you didn't opt out of emails from Gumroad you should've gotten a message from me today about the pre-sale of the hardcover @haskellbook It links to this blog post with details: lorepub.com/post/2021-03-0…
Here's a blog post expanding on what I said about the pre-sale of the print book earlier today: lorepub.com/post/2021-03-0… Please let me know if you have any questions!
The printed hardcover edition of @haskellbook is now available for pre-sale: lorepub.com/product/haskel… If you need to change your address between now and when the book starts shipping, please send me an email: lorepub.com/support Expect the book to ship in 2-3 months.
Haskell Programming from First Principles haskellbook.com
I need to do a pre-flight check but the main remaining items are pulling a database snapshot to piece together the database migration (a lot changed to support physical sales), testing the coupon generation against that local snapshot, and then pushing out migrations and coupons.
Logistics integration seems to be working. If things go according to plan the pre-sale of the print version of @haskellbook will be available by the end of March. Keep in mind it's a pre-sale: this is so I know how many books to print off. Books may not ship for 2-3 months.
Everyone that bought Haskell Book while it was in early access gets an automatic 50% off coupon. It'll apply automatically, you won't need to do anything. If you don't have a coupon and believe you should you can email me at [email protected]
Anyway pre-sale is coming soon. In terms of programming, I'd like to get a head start on the fulfillment integration work. I'd also like to write a blog post explaining the reason for the pre-sale.
Basically: I'd like to know how many print copies to order for the initial sales and a pre-sale helps me do that and to pay for the print run.
Haskell Book people: does this make sense to y'all? I'm gonna call the printer next week to get a new estimate and make sure everything's in order. (This isn't live, this is from my local dev version of Lorepub's e-commerce app.)
@ashprakasan @dennistel90 @drboolean I just ended up learning Haskell no better way to understand all the various abstractions. I would recommend this book: haskellbook.com
You don't need to get anything to get your coupon for a discounted copy of the print book if you bought the ebook in early access! I have a database of all the purchases. I'll be using that data to copy licenses over to Lorepub and to generate & email coupons automatically.
Haskell Programming from First Principles has had its final release for the first edition. I'll be working on the print version and @lorepub now. Anyone that bought the e-book Jan 27 2020 (today) or earlier will get a 50% off coupon for the print version if/when it's available.
Watched this reat talk by @FelixMulder youtu.be/QJQRY9xsFkw. You said that you and your team find it easier to train newbies in haskell than scala. Very interesting. Can you suggest learnibg resources for starting in haskell?

@Ombre_con_barba @tereza_sokol @elmlang I’m not trolling but the parser combinators chapter of @haskellbook made understand this concept forever (and by extension, decoders too ;)
@haskellbook @ThomasDost2 Gotchu, customs can be a pain in the ass.
@jasonappleton I am also currently on the journey to learning Haskell and Plutus. I picked the @haskellbook up. Small steps steadily everyday, and all things become possible.
Today I purchased the @haskellbook and created this account with the intention of going through the entire thing in the next few months. I'm a simple Python backend developer. I've been working in the industry for the past 3 years, and have no knowledge of Haskell whatsoever.
I’m on chapter 22 of @haskellbook, one of ten remaining chapters left to work through. It’s been a really great read not only for learning Haskell but for a better understanding of functional programming as a whole as well.
finally finished @haskellbook after a two month sprint, disengaging cyber brain autistic mode
@NicolasRinaudo @chwthewke @haskellbook Excerpt from the book. I've been talking about not using `throw` the whole time. I think I've made myself clear to avoid `throw`, and not `throwM`/`throwIO`. I never said avoid exception. I said avoid strict throw.
@JM0x5C @chwthewke The thing is though - there's an entire chapter of a fairly modern and respected Haskell book, @haskellbook , dedicated to it, which doesn't really make it feel like something you should avoid at all cost
@voidzorro @haskellbook Could not agree more! Look at all this fabulous code 🤩 github.com/wireapp/wire-s…
New open reading group on the @haskellbook at @FHNWTechnik, Friday, 9:15, room 5.2B31. We take turns in moderating the event. First chapter due 28.9. „lambda calculus“
<$> (fmap) is function application inside a structure (denoted by angle brackets), that heap of symbols finally makes sense now, thanks @haskellbook !
Just completed the exercises for Chapter 11 of @haskellbook which took 17 days and 48 commits.
@haskellbook It's my birthday tomorrow, purchasing Haskell Book is the best gift I'm going to get :D
@CarlosMChica @haskellbook This is gonna be good Here's my contribution: github.com/MattJOlson/Has…
After First I know Haskell 11 years ago, this year is first time I think I can read/write Haskell for real software. Thanks @haskellbook
@mattoflambda @haskellbook The book came about a year and half too late for me. Too bad, it would have saved me time/pain. I went through it anyway -- great stuff!
@timtro Neither have I. Looking forward to the final project in @haskellbook (no spoilers, please).
