This garden is going to be our best one yet! We got many onions in today, as well as more lettuce, spinach, and flowers. Our brick building and raised beds keep the soil warm enough to not worry (too much) about the impending late April frost. #RBCHS #GardenClub
BioMed students are studying chromosomal disorders. They're learning how karyotypes help diagnose certain genetic disorders. In this activity, they created a karyotype, identified chromosomal abnormalities, diagnosed their patient, & presented their findings to the class. #RBCHS
#RBCHS teachers and staff enjoyed the solar eclipse phenomenon! It may not have gotten totally dark in northern IL, but the temperatures dropped at least 20 degrees and a bald eagle flew over is at the darkest moment! Pretty cool! #SolarEclipse2024
Yesterday, we reviewed stages of mitosis & meiosis & discussed how chromosomal abnormalities can occur during gamete formation. Today, we prepared a microscope slide with human cancer cells. Monday, we'll look for chromosomal abnormalities in our samples. Science is cool! #RBCHS
Today, these seniors got their unknown bacteria and the 64 possibilities they need to eliminate based on test results. One student already knows their bacteria's shape and arrangement after day 1! Excited to watch these microbiologists in training in action! #RBCHS
Microbio H students plan their staining & tests around their personal calendars. This takes organizational skills, strategic thinking, and attention to detail. These soft skills are essential to accomplishing their end goal of correctly identifying their unknown bacteria. #RBCHS
These seniors just performed their final guided test today. It's time for them to use the skills and knowledge they gained the past 9 weeks and identify what their unknown bacteria is! Good luck! #RBCHS #labskills #microbiology
Mother Nature couldn't make up her mind, so today, Garden Club is back inside. It might be cold, but that's not stopping us from learning tips for garden design! #RBCHS #GardenClub
We were seriously excited about our lab today! Talking about cell transport is one thing. Seeing it actually happen is on a whole new level! Bio H students explored diffusion, and tomorrow they get to see osmosis occurs firsthand. I hope they're just as excited! #RBCHS
Garden Club is growing by the week! So great to see awesome life skills develop among these kids and to see so many smiles every week. This week we planted onions, broccoli, beets and more. Next week, we're upgrading our compost bin and building a new one from pallets. #RBCHS
We've had a lot to celebrate at RB lately! A delayed congratulations to this great group of students that placed 1st at Regionals! Best of luck to you all at Sectionals next month! 🚀 #RBCHS

Q3 in Microbiology H is training for the Q4 unknown project. Students have learned how to make agar, prepare bacterial smears, inoculate bacteria, perform simple and differential stains, and will learn biochemical tests. These seniors have demonstrated amazing lab skills! #RBCHS
We've been having so much fun in class that I'm behind on posting! Pictured are Bio Honors students determining how allele frequency of urchins changes with the selective pressure of otter hunting. The PNW has been the focus of some amazing lessons in genetics and ecology. #RBCHS
Today's Garden Club was fantastic! We prepared mini greenhouses from milk jugs to winter sow flower and spinach seeds. We transplanted aloe, cactus, and rosemary. And we had lots of laughs! Can't wait to watch our seeds grow. (Maybe a spring plant sale is in order 🤔). #RBCHS
A huge thank you to Woodstock Sterile Solutions (@WSSterile) for welcoming my @PLTWorg BioMed students to their facilities and engaging them with great demos! We toured a Chem, Micro, and Eng lab where students got to see what life is really like in the biomed field. #RBCHS
Garden Club is back at it! The freezing temps don't stop us from learning about indoor gardening - different types of houseplants, how to care for them, and even growing some from cuttings. Had a handful of new faces today, too. It's a great day to be a Rocket gardener! #RBCHS
