@TheCountessIE Blown away by reaction to #marref & #repeal where ppl voted out of compassion. Greens particularly trawl schools to influence. Originally environment/climate but then trans ideology. Years in the making. Thought #referendum24 a sure thing.
@culladgh @WomensSpaceIre Also had to encourage her to get out of bed to see the #marref bus a few years earlier when she couldn't vote. They're growing up & doing us well.
@HHillespie @mr__daly Did you express these concerns during #marref, given the funding and promotion given to the "Yes" side?
1/2 It's hard to belive it's 9 years today that a group of Irish strangers got togeathet in London to make a video for #boat2vote campaign. For equality in #MarRef in Ireland. As everyone knows there was a great result .
#LeoVaradkar being lauded for #marref & #repealthe8th is actually making me a small but sick! Both were the result of grassroot activism and the hard slog on the part of many civil society orgs over many years! 🙄
@ConorReddy95 #MarRef and #Repealedthe8th were passed because of decades of grassroots activism, not political leadership. Nearly all the parties were happy to jump on the bandwagon once they knew the way the result was going.
@FearStairLmk I had this happen to be regularly during #marref and thankfully I spotted the breaches quickly. They they resorted to creating an email very similar to mine and started spamming my friends and email groups of which I was a member. Stay vigilant.
At at time when few thought we could win the marriage referendum Charlie Bird lent his considerable reputation & skill to @YesEquality2015 He went around the country encouraging many #LGBTI people to speak for the first time & many more to listen. He was our fairy dust in #marref
@dermotcullen3 Why? #MarRef cost €14.8million. I don't think an extra €5.2million nine years later is excessive, given the increase in the electorate, wage inflation, and likely extra cost of polling station and count centre hire given the rise in energy costs.
@CMacCoille Met him at Pride after #MARREF He did great work - an honour to have met him. My condolences to you
@KeithMillsD7 @MichaelPTKelly @RadioBrendanRTE People were happy that women finally had a choice about it. Not necessarily the act of it. What has changed negatively in your life since #marref that directly relates to that?
@jamie_mc95 It failed because of the people promoting the abject poor wording, it didn't fail because of the people, who did their civic duty. #Divorce = rights #Marref = rights #Repeal = rights #CareRef = strive Nudge Steps Pathway.... anything but rights
In 2015, the majority of @fiannafailparty voters went "No" on #marref, which the party campaigned for and yesterday they completely went against their party on #Referendum2024. FF are becalmed at under 20% in the polls. How is @MichealMartinTD's leadership tenable?
@MichaelPTKelly @RadioBrendanRTE I had no issue with people celebrating the result of #marref though it obviously stung me personally after giving all I could to the No side. However the triumphalism after #8thref was beyond distasteful. Imagine celebrating abortion, something everyone accepted was undesirable!
