Bengaluru T2 is one of the most exceptionally designed airport spaces I have seen across the world. The attention to detail is immaculate, so is the layout planning. The signage’s and typography is beautiful and consistent - immigration layout could have been better. The exit gate to main gate walk is long-ish and it’s something that needs some solving. But that’s the case with any large airports - Ex: Changi, Dubai, Suvarnabhoomi. There are always going to be some hyper utility minded folks with low taste who would call this ‘overdesigned’ ( a word that has no meaning ) and call it wasteful cos it’s a bold work of design that deviates from the drab white light , vinyl and concrete airport designs that folks are used to. And anything that deviates from someone’s limited understanding needs to be dissed, you see ? I love the bell shaped LED’s that merge so well with the ceiling artifacts and also those tastefully designed AC duct covers that seamlessly merge with the wall shades.
Is it perfect in terms of design ? - No. Is there room for improvement ? - yes. But if all you can fault is the non standard, unconventional visual design - you have patchy understanding of design.
@harish_io I love everything about this airport.. I wanted a bit of Hoysala Architecture to be infused… The temple complex of Belur, Hallebidu etc could have inspired some designs and educated many driving tourism..
BLR T2 is a perfect example of a gold-plated airport project. Since the operator earns fixed IRR on the cost of the airport, they would like to spend as much in Capex and have higher returns and profit! The Dyson hand dryer, Stanley Furniture, Wall to wall granite used in T2 are for gold plating it ... rightly highlighted by the parliamentary panels thehindu.com/news/national/…
@harish_io Other states should take inspiration from it. @narendramodi
@harish_io @DisneyPlusHSP has a great documentary on BLR T2 hotstar.com/in/movies/supe…
@harish_io All the airports should be demoralised at least to the extent of railway stations so that air travel becomes available even to lower middle class.
@harish_io is there any moment or topic or discussion you leave out to bang your theory that utility minded folks have low taste 😅🤣🤣
@harish_io But but but sir, "The dyson taps are ₹1.5 lacs each..." 😭
