The Third Circuit has ruled that New Jersey's requirements for retired police officers who want to carry firearms and hollow-point ammo are preempted by the federal LEOSA law, which means they only need to comply with the latter to carry those in NJ: assets.nationbuilder.com/firearmspolicy…
@gunpolicy Hopefully it’s a win for you guys. The 2 tiered system of laws is getting out of hand.
@gunpolicy The courts here love to make different rules for different classes of gun owner..
LEOSA allows all sworn retired Law Enforcement (and some M.P./military personnel) to carry in all states. They must complete the CCW course in their state, whomever sanctions it and then turn in their paperwork to their local Law Enforcement office (or sanctions office, it varies state by state). The LEOSA process (processing and I.D. , not range or classroom time, costs nothing). It's only good for one year and must be renewed every year. That's something we need to change. Five year LEOSA would be better. You have to follow whatever CCW laws that state has in place to be in compliance. You can legally carry in all states, regardless of reciprocity, as it is a federal law and supersedes state laws. Let's face it, more retired law enforcement carrying everywhere is always a good thing.
@gunpolicy So now there's a wider gap of two classes of PRIVATE citizens. I know as many plaintiffs as you want including myself to take on NJs unconstitutional ammo ban, to add to the Mag and AWB ban cases.
@gunpolicy Police aren't special. They should have not a single right more than any other citizen.
@gunpolicy Can you please start explaining these things with a little background and in layman’s terms? Thank you.
@gunpolicy Retired police are civilians and need to adhere to ordinary laws that we do.
@gunpolicy If the retired police can carry it, then so should every other law-abiding citizen be able to carry it.
@gunpolicy I wonder why the police need protection but us deplorable’s don’t
@gunpolicy Cool. Now do everyone else in NJ, not the favored class of former state agents.
