🇲🇲 #Myanmar - 🇯🇵 #Japan: Takeshi Ebisawa, a known senior figure in the Japanese Yakuza crime syndicate, has been charged by #US prosecutors for attempting to traffic nuclear materials from Myanmar to #Iran. The money from the sale of weapons-grade uranium was allegedly going to be used to supply anti-junta militia groups in Myanmar with weaponry. Ebisawa first approached an undercover DEA agent in 2020, offering a large supply of nuclear materials to who he thought was an arms trafficker with connections to the Iranian government. Ebisawa also asked about purchasing a wide array of weaponry, ranging from rifles to surface-to-air missile systems. The militia group Ebisawa sought to purchase these weapons on behalf of is currently unknown. If convicted, he will be facing a life sentence in American prison. (via BBC)
