On one of my placements when I was training, I got decimated for my accent. I sounded far too northern and I was told that this made me sound not clever enough to be teaching. It was a placement in the North West of England - the Cumbria/Lancashire border area!
@amymayforrester Accent prejudice exists everywhere so it is bound to exist in schools too. I was told my attitude was too northern & my accent compounded it. A diff guy at work thought my accent )”(light) was so Byker Grove I made £40 on a night out saying cherry coke & Smokey bacon on rep
@KLF4564 @amymayforrester It's something I've always wondered about with management types in schools. I'm sure I'm looked down on by some. Meanwhile, kids just want to know if I'm Scottish! 😂
@grahamcrosby @amymayforrester I know one of my teacher friends was up in arms about an ofsted inspector critical of allowing the Reception class to use regional inflections as it ‘opened them up to be seen as not able to hit their developmental targets’
