The most obvious sign that the education system is broken is that summer break still exists. Every research study shows massive learning loss over summer break. The kids don't plant and harvest the fields anymore. What are we doing folks?
@krdonnelly I've talked to multiple teachers that said they'd quit if they didn't get summers off, curiously enough while also insisting that summers aren't actually "time off" So I think it's entirely plausible that school staff like the break even more than the students.
@redoaksmember @krdonnelly I have worked under both systems. I prefer the longer break myself, because it allows me time to fully let go of one school year & think about what things I'll do differently next year. My agenda. A hidden cost of smaller breaks is that the "wind down/wind up days really add up.
@jsquared2k3 @redoaksmember @krdonnelly I would never fully be off. I'd stay in work mode and never end up resting. I'd burn out faster than I already am.
