@AceC52 @SecretMarquette That is an interesting take, equity in the NBA vs the teams themselves. The players could then keep their current contract structure and be assigned certain equity values that they can opt into, and then have rules around if and when they can sell it, and who they can sell it to.

@jandrewclark @SecretMarquette It is unrealistic to suggest that the owners give up equity while players give up nothing. This is something that would need to be collectively bargained and agreed to by both sides. Savvy players would definitely choose to take less up front in exchange for more equity.

@BBWave2020 @SecretMarquette Look at some of the contracts in this league for mid tier and lower tier veteran players. Many of them are huge overpays that benefit from this CBA, and they benefit from this system while the top players are slotted in.

@BBWave2020 @SecretMarquette Only the top 1% are being “artificially depressed”, but those players are more likely to have huge markets for sponsorships to make up that financial gap. The rest of the league’s salaries are being artificially inflated by this setup. Should they trade one for the other?

@30HomeGames @SecretMarquette I think the only way owners would discuss something like this in exchange for a huge discount on the contract. 1% of the Knicks based on an estimated team value of $10B is $100M and that number will only increase with time while the owner is forced to reduce their position.

@AntaGoya @dspadam @SportsTaxMan What does losing in the World Series have to do with it, other than giving obnoxious Yankees fans joy 26 years later? If anything it helps. The Mets made the World Series thanks to this move. It didn’t work out, but it led to us drafting our franchise player.
