SEN. KELLY: I've spent 15 years working with Russian cosmonauts. Took me 5 years to understand what motivated them. Number one, appearance that they were in charge of something. Two, who to blame when something goes wrong. Three, what to steal today. Only four, mission success. I think as Ukrainians, as Americans, as Brits, we're often motivated by mission success. You want organization you work for to be successful, you want your country to be successful, you want British Army to be successful, I want US Navy to be successful, I want NASA to be successful. At the top of the list was that they really cared about the appearance that they were in charge of something, not mission success. Number two on the list, I would say, was whether they knew who to blame when something went wrong, like placing the blame. Russians have a position in their Mission Control Center which is called "mistakes officer." When a Russian cosmonaut makes a mistake, they keep track of it and they take money out of their pay. I would say the third thing, even before mission success, was what am I going to steal from my employer today. And we would talk about that. They were very open about this. And apparently there's a saying in Russian that if you didn't steal something at work that day, you did not have a good day. For us, and I think everybody in this room here, mission success is the thing that matters more than anything else. And for the Russians I worked with, it might have been number four on the list. So I actually was not that surprised about their incompetence.

I am a US citizen, but I have never in my life been so disappointed with the US. The reasons are many: 1. The US people have elected a president who represent all the deadly sins. How could they do that? Are they so morally deprived? 2. Lying has been normalized. Trump made it the standard. 3. The US used to claim the non-partisan rule of law, but SCOTUS has been proven utterly corrupt & obedient to Trump. 4. The US used to boast about its checks and balances, but they don't exist. The republicans in Congress are obedient servants of one man. 5. The US used to oppose corruption, but the Trump crime family is probably the most corrupt ruling family in the world. How can SCOTUS & the republicans in Congress accept that? 6. The US used to be considered a democracy, but massive gerrymandering & voter discrimination make US elections not very democratic. 7. Reporters without Broders have rightly lowered the US to rank #64 in its sound World Press Freedom index. the US no longer has media freedom, because of extortion and oppression through defamation court cases. 8. The US used to be the security guarantee of the free world, but Trump only praises Xi Jingping, Putin, Lukashenko & Kim Jong Un. Is the US able to extract itself from the Trump trap, in which it has fallen so deeply?

I don't know how we can remove the Imperialist creed from most Russian citizens heads. Recently in Germany it was unveiled, that in interviews in the 50/60s that were never published, many German citizens still were open to Nazi ideas. Nazi Germany lasted about 12 years. That's a realively short while. Yet, it took the complete destruction of Germany, years long occupation, and externally enforced democratisation, denazification and suppression of Nazi ideas to try to remove this cancer from Germany. And still then, the only way to really get rid of Nazism was to wait for the next generation to take over, differently educated, and for the old generation to die off. Now compare this to Russia which has been Imperialist for centuries, and had the most toxic political systems in European history for the same amount of time. These ideas crept into the Russian psyche, the Volksgeist, for way way longer than Nazism in Germany. Yet, nobody is seriously proposing, because nobody wants to expend European lives for Russia, to destroy and occupy Russia and force them to de-Putinise, de-Stalinise, de-Imperialise. That's just not gonna happen. So I truly see absolutely no hope for Russia at all.
