Finally! I’m not at all sold on the holographic noise story, but very happy to see a technical document on the experiment. Especially the details of photon counting in an interferometer and how it supposedly can beat standard quantum limit-level noise. arxiv.org/abs/2404.07524
Important context for the DESI neutrino mass sum measurement: there's strong prior dependence. Too soon to say whether neutrinos are inverted hierarchy or normal hierarchy, but ~2sigma preference for normal. data.desi.lbl.gov/public/papers/…
I’m very excited to see analyses coming from DESI. A key highlight of this release is the new upper limit on the sum of neutrino masses, 70 meV at 95% which excludes the inverted hierarchy! The minimum is 60 meV which they should have evidence for soon.

As a cheerleader of quantum metrology, I'd like to remind people that experimentalists in our field have convincingly beat classical limits, and not just for useless tasks. LIGO is using squeezed light! No question which quantum tech has the highest impact-to-hype ratio so far.

I seriously don't understand the point this guy is trying to raise. The non-perturbative string theory is often used as a synonym for the ultimate final answer for quantum gravity. If we admit that we don't know how to solve everything, that is out of honesty.

My conspiracy theory is that the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics was devised to sell more beer. Evidence: 1. Niels Bohr was funded by the Carlsberg Foundation. 2. Everyone who thinks about the Copenhagen interpretation for any length of time needs a beer.
