What type of fish is this? 😳
The polka dot ribbonfish, also known as Desmodema polystictum, is an extraordinary and uncommon creature that resides in the depths of the ocean. It belongs to the Trachipteridae family, which includes other ribbon-like fish like the oarfish and the dealfish. What sets this fish apart is its remarkable veil-like pelvic fins that gracefully trail behind it, resembling beautiful ribbons. Although the polka dot ribbonfish can be found in tropical and temperate waters worldwide, it is a rare sight for us humans. It prefers to dwell in the mesopelagic zone, which lies hundreds of meters beneath the ocean's surface. Here, it sustains itself by feeding on small fish and invertebrates. However, on occasion, you may come across juvenile polka dot ribbonfish in shallower waters, particularly during the nighttime when they rise to feed. These young fish have a silvery hue and bear a resemblance to jellyfish, like in Ryo Minemizu amazing shot. The juvenile can y vary in size, depending on the source of information. The average length of the juveniles is about 8 cm, but some of them can grow up to 15 cm. The adult polka dot ribbonfish can reach much larger sizes, up to 1.3 m. @fopminui @AMAZlNGNATURE ahm, I have to disagree. Appears to be one of the better looking stonefish - as perviously mentioned...
