@giles06175099 @sinichol @TimBushLondon igg is used bc it's the easiest functional marker to obtain for 'immunity.' Difficult to obtain and test iga. Suffice it to say, without igg one is susceptible to infection.
@fitterhappierAJ @sinichol @TimBushLondon there are different degrees of susceptibility though surely? unless IGA and TCells confer no immunity. Epidemiologically immunity isn't black and white. If I have Iga and not igg i am at least partially immune? And similar with T Cells? also does igg confer 100% immunity?
@giles06175099 @sinichol @TimBushLondon noone has looked into that yet, and since I have not I can't make the claim. Speculating is good to ask research questions but is only helpful for guiding policy when paired with a precautionary approach. Recent paper came out that showed most people get igg after infection,
@fitterhappierAJ @sinichol @TimBushLondon "Recent paper came out that showed most people get igg after infection," if that is the case then iga antibodies in luxembourg study must have been produced without infection.. could you link to the study to which you refer?
@fitterhappierAJ @sinichol @TimBushLondon LUX study referred to here bmj.com/content/370/bm…
@giles06175099 @sinichol @TimBushLondon cool, it's intricate for me and out of my depth for now, would require reading. prof iwasaki released more info about iga but i did not read it. i am focusing mainly on t cells and the 'prior immunity' that was misconstrued. i think it was cooptedpolitically so i try to rectify
@fitterhappierAJ @sinichol @TimBushLondon I think everybody is a little out of their depth :) I think there is also political bias to deny impact of immunity. Deaths and hospitalisations are not rising at the rate they were but we are less locked down than spring - seems to me their must be a reason for that.
@giles06175099 @sinichol @TimBushLondon no. if you listen to kulvinder kaur etc. they are wrong. i am a t cell immunologist and have an obligation to the health of the people. I am not downplaying my own field for any political gain. notion of prior immunity with this virus was extremely irresponsible
@fitterhappierAJ @sinichol @TimBushLondon apologies not meaning to slur you :) i wasn't really talking about prior immunity - just noticing the difference in trend between now and the spring. That couldn't be down to prior immunity any how as any prior immunity was present in spring too.
@fitterhappierAJ @sinichol @TimBushLondon It seems to me it is highly complex - fwiu iga (and maybe t cells?) are a first line of defence - so maybe we could allocate 10% immunity - ie 10% transmission (low viral load incidents) stopped. But then if we change behaviour socially distance then that 10% could become 90%
@giles06175099 @sinichol @TimBushLondon t cells are down the list of defense and require infection. for a t cell to work it has to kill cells- you need those cells. and the virus hides from t cells. this virus is not a normal cold, it is a form of sars that trades overt virulence for chronic stealthy virulence.
@fitterhappierAJ @sinichol @TimBushLondon Macrophages, basophils, dendritic cells, neutrophils, T-cells, B-cells, iga, igg, igm. HELP!!!! :D :D
@fitterhappierAJ @sinichol @TimBushLondon The virus hides from the t-cells, and may it also infect the t-cells?
