As talk of war between Iran and Israel heats up, we often find ourselves trapped in the process of dehumanization that precedes conflict—those we are about to try and kill, after all, cannot be allowed, in our minds, to possess the same level of humanity as we who are about to kill them. This is especially so when there is a clash of cultures, such as between Iran and Israel. Sometimes we would all do well to pause and take the time needed to see our potential foe as they see themselves. It might allow us to realize we are all, in the end, the same.
