I think a useful mental model for trading is to focus first on moving away from the things that reliably produce failure, rather than trying to move toward the things that appear to produce success. Both approaches may seem equivalent, but they lead to very different decisions. Trading is taking risk and risk is exposure to luck. Therefore, outcomes are not directly controllable. The only thing you fully control is your error rate. So that's where most of the work should go, right? Tennis is a great analogy here. In professional tennis, players mostly win by producing exceptional shots. In amateur tennis, matches are usually decided by who commits fewer unforced errors. The winning strategy is simply to keep the ball in play and stop taking dumb shots. In that sense, good trading is often less about discovering the perfect action and more about systematically eliminating the actions that are known to be destructive. You approach success indirectly by systematically removing the behaviors that make success harder.

Imagine this: - Messi reached his 7th World Cup goal across three editions (2006, 2010, 2014). - Kylian Mbappé reached his 7th across two editions (2018, 2022). - Miroslav Klose did it across two editions as well (2002, 2006). - Ronaldo Nazário and Pelé also needed two World Cups to get there. Then there’s this absolute freak named Erling Haaland, who reached 7 World Cup goals in 4 games and in his very first tournament, playing for Norway of all teams. I genuinely believe that if Haaland had a national team on the level of France, Spain, or England, he’d have had a real shot at becoming the World Cup’s all-time top scorer within his first two tournaments alone. An absolute phenomenon.

OGs know that no one’s opinion should impact your trades. Think for yourself or just quit trading and invest long-term. This to say, it’s great to learn from other people’s process, but taking it the whole way and impacting your trades, makes no sense.
