The continuity of the Greek language preserves remarkable historical memory. Greeks call France “Gallia” (Γαλλία), echoing ancient Gaul rather than the Franks. Likewise, Constantinople is still Κωνσταντινούπολη in Greek. Over 2,000 years of linguistic continuity matter.

Η χθεσινή εμπλοκή οπλισμένων τουρκικών F-16 με ελληνικά μαχητικά αναχαίτισης στο Αιγαίο τονίζει εμφατικά την επάνοδο της Τουρκίας στην πρακτική της έμπρακτης, επιθετικής αμφισβήτησης του εναερίου καθεστώτος του Αιγαίου. Οι τουρκικές παραβιάσεις, οι εμφανίσεις οπλισμένων αεροσκαφών και οι εμπλοκές τους πρώτους μήνες του 2026 έχουν ήδη αυξητική τάση σε σύγκριση με το 2025, ενώ η εποχή μηδενικών παραβιάσεων είναι πια παρελθόν. Με αφορμή τα δεδομένα αυτά, αξίζει μια προσεκτική εξέταση του ισχυρισμού του υπουργού Εξωτερικών Γ. Γεραπετρίτη, αρχιτέκτονα της "Δήλωσης των Αθηνών" του Δεκεμβρίου 2023 και βασικού εισηγητή της πολιτικής "αποφυγής κρίσεων" με την Τουρκία, ο οποίος έχει επανειλημμένα αναφέρει τη μείωση των τουρκικών παραβιάσεων ως αποτέλεσμα της πολιτικής αυτής (π.χ. πριν από μια εβδομάδα εδώ: newsbeast.gr/politiki/arthr…) Με μια ματιά στις στατιστικές παραβιάσεων του ΓΕΕΘΑ, ο ισχυρισμός αυτός του κ. Γεραπετρίτη αποδεικνύεται αβάσιμος: η Τουρκία είχε σταματήσει τις παραβιάσεις του ελληνικού εναερίου χώρου από το Μάρτιο του 2023, δηλαδή ΠΡΙΝ την ανάληψη του υπουργείου Εξωτερικών (@GreeceMFA ) από τον κ. Γεραπετρίτη (Ιούνιος 2023) και την υπογραφή της "Δήλωσης των Αθηνών" (Δεκέμβριος 2023). Άρα η μείωση των τουρκικών παραβιάσεων δεν ήταν αποτέλεσμα της πολιτικής "προσέγγισης" με την Τουρκία όπως ισχυρίζεται συχνά ο υπουργός Εξωτερικών. Πιθανότατα οφειλόταν στις δυσκολίες που προκάλεσε στην Τουρκία ο σεισμός του Φεβρουαρίου 2023 και στα προβλήματα διαθεσιμότητας των τουρκικών F-16 - άλλο αν η τουρκική διπλωματία την εμφάνισε και ως κίνηση καλής θέλησης σε όσους αφελείς Έλληνες είναι πάντα έτοιμοι να πιστέψουν στη δυνατότητα "εξημέρωσης του θηρίου". Τώρα λοιπόν η "αυτοσυγκράτηση" στον τομέα των παραβιάσεων εγκαταλείπεται από την Τουρκία, μαζί με την ελληνοτουρκική "προσέγγιση" που είναι κλινικά νεκρή - παρά τις προσπάθειες του κ. Γεραπετρίτη να της δώσει τεχνητές αναπνοές. Η προαναγγελθείσα κατάθεση του νομοσχεδίου για τη "γαλάζια πατρίδα", οι επιθετικές ανακοινώσεις και η αισθητή έξαρση της παντοειδούς προπαγάνδας της Τουρκίας κατά της Ελλάδας, δείχνουν ξεκάθαρα τις τουρκικές προθέσεις. Ενώπιον της ανανεωμένης τουρκικής επιθετικότητας, τα σχόλια τύπου "μονομερείς ενέργειες δεν παράγουν διεθνείς έννομες συνέπειες" από τον κ. Γεραπετρίτη είναι μεν σωστά από νομική άποψη, αλλά μικρή σημασία έχουν από πρακτική άποψη. Γιατί και οι απειλές των τουρκικών φρεγατών κατά του Ievoli Relume το 2024 στην Κάσο ήταν μονομερείς και νομικά αβάσιμες, αλλά το πρακτικό αποτέλεσμα είναι ότι σχεδόν δύο χρόνια μετά οι εργασίες για την ηλεκτρική διασύνδεση GSI δεν έχουν ξαναρχίσει - παρά τις σχετικές εξαγγελίες του κ. Γεραπετρίτη τον Αύγουστο του 2025.(x.com/e_amyna/status…) Είχαμε επισημάνει εγκαίρως το 2024 ότι "από τις δόκιμες πολιτικές της στρατιωτικής αποτροπής και της διπλωματικής εξισορρόπησης που εφαρμόστηκαν το 2019-2023, περάσαμε αιφνιδίως στην αντίληψη ότι βασικός στόχος είναι η …αποφυγή κρίσεων. Η αντίληψη αυτή, που εκφράζεται κυρίως από τον υπουργό Εξωτερικών Γ. Γεραπετρίτη, είναι η πεμπτουσία της πολιτικής του κατευνασμού, που έχει ιστορικά αποδειχθεί ότι αποθρασύνει κάθε επιθετικό αντίπαλο, γεννώντας του κίνητρο να πιέσει τον …ειρηνόφιλο γείτονα" (x.com/e_amyna/status…). Ελπίζουμε ότι η επάνοδος της τουρκικής επιθετικότητας (και) με τη μορφή των παραβιάσεων και εμπλοκών στο Αιγαίο θα κάνει και τους πλέον καλοπροαίρετους στην ελληνική κυβέρνηση, όπως ο κ. Γεραπετρίτης, να δουν κατάματα την πραγματικότητα.

And second, because you are trying to portray different things as equal: forced mutual expulsions (population exchange) were agreed in the treaties ending the wars (the last one being the Lausanne treaty in 1923) and, while sad, they were made relatively peacefully and with respect to life and dignity of the populations being exchanged. But what Turkey did in 1914-1923 was very different: there were mass killings, mass rapes, "death marches" for days without food or water. And those were not isolated incidents, but they were done as a central state policy.
