There is nothing wrong with a private club of procedural enthusiasts who want to spend their time having daylong meetings but it’s not how we should run our political parties that have a big influence on our lives.

Having a bunch of insiders decide the date of the state is what's wrong with the state .
Over 37,000 people showed up to DFL caucus night this year. About half of them for the first time. I’ve said it on the record and I’ll keep saying it: the Minnesota DFL is a big tent party and that’s our strength. We don’t win by shutting people out or drawing smaller circles.
I’ve been complaining since 2016 because caucuses are exclusionary. It’s really the principle of the thing.

I'd feel a lot more comfortable with Democratic Socialists in the party if fewer of them celebrated murder and the deaths of people they don't like. It would also help if I ever saw them calling out their own on this front. Please, when you see this, call your comrades out.

@DanTheRulesNerd @JamesWardenMN I think there’s an inherent issue where people assume money dictates elections more than it does, especially on local races. If anything, the conventions benefit candidates who can raise money before caucus, and hurt those who don’t have an early fundraising base
We can’t complain about voters having to wait in line a couple hours if we’re only giving voice to people able to spend multiples of that waiting around a convention center. That’s rank hypocrisy.
DFLers — whether in Minneapolis or not — should stand for inviting as many people into the political process as possible. We’ve (rightly!) criticized Republican tactics like reducing polling places and mail-in balloting because it makes it harder to vote.
Unpopular opinion: You’ve lost the plot if your choice of endorsement process is based on your desired result. That’s really no different from gerrymandering.

It’s good that the disastrous Minneapolis endorsement process was rejected by the state party. Caucuses and conventions are bad enough, but those that don’t even bother to be run fairly are worse than useless.
It’s very clear that many caucus defenders don’t give a damn about the views of caucus goers, they just want a certain result. That’s another indictment against the current system.

The DFL should have professional translators for the caucuses and conventions, but failure to provide them consistently for years is just another indication that the system is unworkable and exclusionary.
If caucuses were proposed as a GOP voter suppression tactic DFLers would be furious and marching in the streets. Because we have a fig leaf that they reward “organizing” DFLers back them to the hilt. Let candidates speak directly to all voters!
There are non-exclusionary ways to endorse/elect candidates that don’t create the same problems of community pressure and potential violence. If you’re choosing caucuses, you’re choosing these things.
