both can be true: 1. the future of the democratic party relies on being more accountable to an increasingly younger & more progressive electorate 2. the party’s active base-& by this i mean reliable primary voters-as it currently stands is overall older & more moderate

most elected democrats who hope to be successful have to navigate this dynamic and cater to each group without alienating the other. that’s not selling out, that’s just good politics
