I agree with you that I don't want the USG to control Anthropic's model releases. It sets a horrible precedent. It is also true that this is exactly what they have been lobbying for for years and their "wait, not like this!" makes it impossible for me to do anything besides roll my eyes at them.

Most people aren't particularly ideological in either direction and have a basic understanding of 2nd order consequences. And we can reasonably expect those who are ideological actors in a state collapse scenario to be a pretty wide mixture of people including ancoms and ancaps in some areas as an extreme minority, but also more moderate versions of both, and separately expect people sorting along ethnic and religious identity. The idea that "business owners" as a class will be outnumbered is absurd. Now as for why most of those groups are going to side with the business owners or even just the people who work in the local branch of a larger company, and only focusing on pure self-interest, why would any of them trust the bandits that just stole a bunch of shit to reliably be able to pay them? Whatever the anarchists loot when they sieze the factory won't be particularly useful without the capital goods that were probably bought from another company, the customers who used to buy its products from the old owners, and logistics that kept it all moving. If it was a large company who just got their property siezed they sure as Hell aren't going to be working with you, and good luck trying to work with the other anarchists who may or may not have siezed other parts of the supply chain elsewhere. And if you just siezed the property of a local business, you still have to deal with everything I said above, but also are dealing with workers who probably had a much less adversarial relationship with the owner who they probably personally knew and had a relationship beyond just a paycheck.

I mean, if we want to look at it from that high of a level then sure, it is reflective of the fact that megacorps like Microsoft act under distorted incentives, are prone to factionalism, and can act more like bureaucracies than sanely run companies if leadership is making poor decisions. Their size means the company can survive serious dysfunction in some areas as long as other parts of the company are able to stay extremely profitable. As far as I'm concerned, the Github Copilot billing getting to the unsustainable point it reached then staying there burning Microsoft's money for so is a symptom of Github being one of the more dysfunctional arms of Microsoft, but one that was beneficial to consumers until they finally corrected it. I bring up the "whataboutisms" of the other parts of Github that are falling apart in real time because those are where that dysfunction is hurting their users. At no point though did I say that these things aren't problems or that no one is at fault though. Of course that is true. I just think you are mistaking corporate incompetence for predatory malice. And even if you are right and making Github a cheap token dispenser was a ploy to drive adoption, so what? We got a ton of cheap tokens out of it. Consumers who are still fine with the current version of it will stay. Consumers who feel they are being ripped off will go to what they see as the next best token dispenser, and businesses will do the same thing with a bit of lag. Have some faith in your fellow man, my dude.

No, because budgeting that strictly, they still have the same amount of tokens available to them on any given Thursday with or without the reset. I guess if we are being pedantic it isn't a good thing for them, just neutral. And the upside mostly falls on those who don't monitor their usage very strictly.

Yeah, and they offered everyone with annual plans refunds for what was left of their subscription, let those annual users stay on request based billing for that time if they didn't take the refund, and explained the change rather clearly ahead of time. You can always cancel your subscription and go elsewhere. Beyond that though, I'd focus on where they are actually ruining Github instead of whining about the ridiculously good deal being gone.

The oversimplified version of why this barely exists outside of religious institutions is LBJ/The Great Societies programs effectively destroyed most of the Mutual Aid societies that existed up until the late 20th century. That said, while not as widespread as the community that forms in churches, secular communities do exist and form around other causes. Normally various political movements, many of which i'm sure you won't like, but not always. You just have to seek them out and work to help maintain them, or if they don't already exist in your area then find like minded to start.

Because assembly makes it very easy for the AI to shoot itself in the foot on edgecases without immediate feedback to tell it that it did something wrong. This is also true for C, Zig, or whatever, but not to as great of an extent thanks to linters being available and well maintained and compilers enforcing some semblance of sanity for the compile at all And to connect it back to the original topic, Rust is a particularly good target for AI rewrites because the borrow checker forces safety checks that prevent an entire category of memory bugs by default, which is immediate feedback that the AI has to address before it moves forward.

The cost they charge for drinksis far higher than the actual cost to them of the drinks and it makes customers happy if they can refill their drinks before they leave after they had their meal, which which the restaurant also made money on. It only becomes a problem when people come in and use the fountain without buying anything.

Okay, but I could send OpenCode on coding session with my Copilot subscription through the night and it woul d burn through maybe 3-5 requests (about 9-15¢ with how Github bills additional requests over your subscription allotment) on tasks that clearly consed hundreds of millions of tokens. If you were using Copilot right it was ridiculously good deal.

No, it doesn't. Once you are in a situation where your agency is stripped from you and you are forced to choose between risking your life, or removing that risk at the potential cost to other people's lives who are given the same choice, the final execution trigger (pun intended) that ends their lives does not matter.
