@josh_hammer QI (or the effort to #EndQualifiedImmunity) did nothing to boost the murder rate. If violating everyday Americans civil rights made America safer, you might have an argument, but you don’t even have that. #policeaccountability does not protect criminals, it protects citizens.

Moves like this are important. 99.8% of lawsuit payouts are ultimately covered by the government, not the individual officers. Increasing the costs to the State will also increase their discernment in hiring and retaining LEOs #endQI #PoliceAccountability

With the proviso that this is just my view, I don’t agree at all. QI shields police (and government actors) from responsibility for their actions based on a legal doctrine set in place largely on a made up understanding of English common law. It’s gotta go.

Taking a hard stance against any rollback of qualified immunity is a mistake. I'd be happy to see Congress clarify specific statutory good-faith/reasonableness defenses that don't leave cops totally unprotected from suit.
