Why do boundaries matter? They often decide who wins. Look how control of our fictional town council changes between the reds and the blues as the ward boundaries move, even though nobody changes their vote.
Which one of these boundaries is the 'fair' one? If we don't want lines on a map to decide our government, we need to abandon the idea that each constituency should elect one MP. electoral-reform.org.uk/the-return-of-…
@electoralreform Who actually decides the boundaries
@electoralreform A very useful thread. We’re about to vote in British Columbia, Canada, on whether to switch to proportional rep. As they say “the devil is in the details” but unfortunately the details won’t be hammered out until after the vote. FPTP is the devil I already know!
@electoralreform Does gerrymandering like this necessarily create more *marginal* seats as the gerrymanderer adjusts boundaries in order to create more areas that spread their votes to create more winning areas rather than fewer clear winning areas?
@electoralreform There's a simple solution. Do away with the districts and count every vote equally everywhere.
