@edmontonjournal Alberta has always craved dictatorship
@edmontonjournal This bill should be instantly declined by the Lieutenant Governor if it reaches Royal Assent. It is a complete violation of citizens' democratic rights.
@edmontonjournal The pro gov has an obligation to its citizens to do what is in their best interests & the province. If the gov is sensing corruption at a municipal level, then perhaps their duty is to protect the integrity of said democracy and restore faith to citizens
April 25, 2024; “Alberta government wants power to remove municipal councillors, repeal bylaws it doesn't like. Bill 20 also enables creation of municipal parties in Edmonton and Calgary” If anyone is anticipating that the United Conservative Alberta government is passing this Bill 20 to consider removing Calgary’s mayor Gondek or Edmonton’s mayor Sohi, stop kidding yourself. So what’s the UCP's political play here, their motivation? First point; Ric McIver is the Alberta government Minister of Municipal Affairs. All actions of his are an extension of the UCP government as a whole. In December 2023, the Alberta UCP government removed Chestermere’s mayor and three councillors, following two years of that Mayor Jeff Colvin, and councillors, Blaine Funk, Stephen Hanley and Mel Foat, exposure of the following corruption (this is just a portion): - $600,000 hush money paid out by outgoing Chief Administration Officer (top city bureaucrat) Ric McIver terminates a Chestermere lawsuit seeking to recover the $600,000 - council meetings deleted from public record where all evidence was publicly presented - tens upon tens of millions of dollars of corruption, nepotism, bribery - 60 city employee credit cards, unaccounted for spending, free-for-all - 120 city employees, 300 cell phones (employee family members) - $40 million estimate in-door soccer field, actual cost is $8 million - expropriation of resident’s land and taxpayer funded mortgages - $475,000 dog park quote, Jeff and team built if for $75,000 - 2016 NDP/UCP governments are complicit in all above UCP Minister of Municipal Affairs Ric McIver’s brother-in-law was a former Chestermere mayor during that corruption. Following the removal of Jeff and team, McIver terminated three investigations of corruption and collusion between McIver, the Minister’s office, McIver’s brother in law, RCMP and three rogue councillors Mciver covered for, kept in office. @daniellesmithSL could have resolved this long ago. The UCP is in over 4 months of breach of a court order to release the evidence they had to remove Jeff and his team. The NDP are silent as the UCP lie and commit crimes. Why? In 2016 the Alberta NDP government failed to act on a petition where 30% of the population of Chestermere signed, asking the NDP government to conduct an investigation into corruption. Following that, Jeff Colvin, Blaine Funk, Stephen Hanley and Mel Foat ran on a platform of anti-corruption, on a commitment of transparency and accountability. They never deviated from that, and for that, the UCP government removed them from office and plugged in a provincial government bootlicker, as the NDP watch. There are those who are continuing to attempt to point the finger solely at the NDP and Ric McIver, on this and on matters involving Alberta Health Services. The intention of that? Deflection away from the Alberta United Conservative government as a whole. UCP and NDP MLAs can speak about this at anytime. But they do not. All 87 MLAs, all Alberta Members of Parliament are watching these crimes play out. Lastly, can you imagine if UCP and NDP parties were only allowed to run in municipal elections? That independent candidates like Jeff Colvin, Blaine Funk, Stephen Hanley and Mel Foat would be ineligible to run? Come on everyone, wake the heck up. Stop defending either the UCP and/or NDP. I'll be hosting Jeff Colvin and other members of his team in the near future in Camrose. Maybe Jackie Lovely and Damien C. Kurek will take in the presentation? Bob
@edmontonjournal Funny how every day this province seems to take yet another step towards becoming a fascist republic. Funny also how none of these steps they take were campaigned on. It’s almost like they hid their true agenda until they got power? Funny.
@edmontonjournal McIver in November 2021: “Quite frankly, I'm not sure I want to see the provincial government with the ability of picking and choosing who can sit on council unless there's some overarching reasons." cbc.ca/news/canada/ca…
@edmontonjournal Time for the federal government to have the same power over Premiers.
