I keep hearing the same defense: “The VA was going to make these changes anyway.” Maybe they were. But isn’t that exactly why veteran advocacy organizations exist? If the VA proposes reducing benefits, shouldn’t the organizations that represent veterans be fighting those changes instead of helping Congress write them into law? That’s the part I can’t get past. If your mission is to protect veterans, when did “they were going to do it anyway” become a reason to stop fighting? I genuinely want to understand the thought process because from the outside it feels like the people who were supposed to stand in front of veterans stepped aside instead. So I’m asking the question every Veteran should be asking whose bright idea was this? And at what point do you as organization admit you got this one wrong??l

Make this make sense @wwp or @theamericanlegion or @MOAAOFFICIAL or @moph_national or any of the other VSOs supporting Take Care of America’s Veterans Act? If your advocacy starts by giving away veterans’ rights, it’s not advocacy anymore. Do Better! 👊🏻🇺🇸

The Take Care of America’s Veterans Act should take care of veterans without taking away future veterans’ ability to be compensated for injuries they receive in the line of duty. That’s the issue. This isn’t about opposing the bill. It’s about opposing the idea that future veterans should help pay for today’s promises. That’s a precedent we should never accept. If you’re a member of a veterans service organization, contact your leadership and tell them this isn’t the legacy you want to leave behind. We owe the next generation the same promise that was made to us, not a smaller one. 👊🏻🇺🇸

@wwp trained me to advocate for veterans and that’s exactly why I’m speaking up. WWP has chosen to support the Take Care of America’s Veterans Act. I read its statement. I understand the benefits included in the bill. What I still haven’t seen is a public explanation to the veterans, members, and donors who built this organization explaining why WWP believes taking away future disability compensation from veterans is a trade and precedent worth making. If you’re willing to put your name behind legislation, you should be willing to explain the part veterans are actually questioning. I believe every generation of veterans has a duty to leave the next generation with at least as much as we inherited. That’s the standard I use, regardless of which organization takes a position. If you’re a WWP Warrior Advocate, Warrior Advocate Leader, WWP member, donor, or supporter, I’m asking you to watch the video, read WWP’s statement for yourself, and then if you disagree like me make your voice heard. If you believe advocacy is about protecting future veterans, make your voice heard and respectfully call on WWP to rescind its support for this bill or publicly explain why it believes this is the right path. The next generation of veterans deserves nothing less.
