FYI if you are wondering why the acceptance speeches at #TheGameAwards are so short and high level, the nominees were told they only had 30 seconds for an acceptance speech, after which the music would play them off to be “respectful to our time allotment and fellow acceptors”
@drjclau What a joke. Why are we even enabling those ppl by giving them coverage and the veneer of integrity?
@drjclau I think this is a good decision. Most people are watching for the game trailers/announcements.
@drjclau The audience is mostly gamers, and they'd rather see a shiny new game announcement than someone like me thank a bunch of people they don't know. If the audience shrinks, then fewer people get to see the 30 second speeches. 🤷♂️
@drjclau How in the world is 30 seconds an acceptable amount of time?! If it’s attempting to emulate Hollywood award shows, one of the most memorable parts are the heartfelt and rebellious speeches. 🤦♀️ Absurd.
@drjclau They’re more worried about ads instead of what the show is actually about.
@drjclau The Oscars is 45 seconds. That said, it’s because the Oscars have a lot more speeches from winners and it is about respecting everyone else’s time. The game awards are just padding time for game announcements and ads. So yes, it’s a bit crap.
@drjclau 30 seconds is such a joke. Maybe limit the ones announcing nominees/winners and the superfluous stuff and give winners a few minutes.
