Why have we evolved so that defending our ideas, opinions, and beliefs and trying to convince others of the "rightness" of those ideas is so important to our sense of safety and survival. What is it about our mental lives that is so vulnerable that we MUST have others agree?
The goal of the spiritual life is NOT relationship with God, Consciousness, Awareness. That establishes separation permanently. The goal is Oneness with God. Love by any other name.
As a child and adolescent, my friends and sometimes total strangers would tell me their problems and ask my advice. Now, I make my living as a psychotherapist. It was either that or a hairstlist or bartender. Did I manifest this career, or is it just coincidence? You be the judge

LOVE is the first manifestation of Consciousness. Not just the various forms of human love that derive from it, but everything that is. LOVE is the essence of creation, the source of human thought and emotion, both positive and negative. It transcends both as it is beyond duality
Beliefs at their best inspire direct inquiry and are eventually replaced by fact and experience. At their worst, beliefs remain unexamined and cloud the mind with unreality.
Deep empathy, that is, the ability to feel, understand, and respond to the pain of other beings, is the highest development of human consciousness thus far. Your level of empathy directly reflects your unfolding level of consciousness.
No one knows for sure what happens after the death of the body, although people have been making up stories about it for centuries. But if we end up in a place with mansions, streets of gold, and forced praise of a narcissistic diety, I'm going to put in for a transfer.
Today, this flowing and eternal moment, is made of LOVE. Everything in this dreamscape we call life is created and sustained by and as LOVE--pure, undifferentiated, unconditional LOVE. Be the truth of this as you move through the world today. Indeed, you have no other choice.
When it was time to take Adam home from the hospital after his birth, two-year-old Chad knocked on the nursery door and asked the nurse, "Can I have my baby, please?" They were best friends from that day until Adam's passing from Cystic Fibrosis 35 years later.
I have taught a generation of counseling students and interns one simple thing: if you don't love your client, you may be able to help relieve their symptoms for a time, but you will never help them heal. So choose now the type of therapist you want to be.
It seems there is a natural progression among individuals and societies from animism to polytheism to monotheism (a personal God) to a non-personal process to Being Itself. A person's god may tell you where they are in the process of unfolding consciousness.
One of the first questions I ask my depressed and/or anxious patients is, "Do you have a dog?" If they say no, rescuing a dog ASAP is my first therapeutic suggestion. My second is a regular program of exercise. . . like walking your dog. 😊
Nonduality as a philosophy is confusing, self-contradictory, and in a word, ridiculous. As an awareness, it silences the mind and opens the heart.
