@draevans Many autistic people don't even know that they are masking. It's so ingrained they can't drop the mask and have a break in environments where it's safe to do so.
@Tracingpaper5 Masking is deadly
@Tracingpaper5 Social norms are silly and enforce hierarchies. It is why there is limited acceptance of ND people.
@Tracingpaper5 @riesinclair Do you share a journey with autism?
@moragduncan @Tracingpaper5 Do you understand this in the context of autism?
@draevans I was always so bad at this. That might be for the better.
@draevans I think it’s important to not confuse acceptance of the self internally and making an effort to mind others when it matters. As a parent, we can be the adult and not just say whatever we’re thinking out loud. In a group of friends we can make an effort to do a thing🤷🏼♀️
@draevans When I married my wife, I thought I'd finally found the one person I would not have to mask around. However recently she nearly left me and I've realized to stay married I'm going to have to mask around her. The saddest part is knowing I can never be genuine around anyone, ever.
