Here's my shot... About 20 y ago, a graduate student named @JaredWYoung emailed to ask about doing a post doc in my lab. I was too poor and too inexperienced to be a good mentor, so he went to @UCSDHealth instead. Obviously, Jared killed it in his career. Bravo Jared.

Dr. Hussain ID'd that loneliness is a sig concern for people living with schizophrenia. Loneliness and functional capacity was moderated by living sitch - boarding care vs independent. Higher fx may = loneliness! It's a complex situation needing more investigation! #Cognition?

We must continue to pursue comprehensive but nuanced understandings of social media and smartphone usage on youth mental health. It will also be critical to probe protective factors in future work including assess positive experiences of support and community building online.
Higher digital exposomic scores associated with higher odds of reporting a prior suicide attempt (OR = 1.76) beyond other risk factors. Black and Hispanic youth & LGBTQ+ youth indicated higher digital exposomic risk.
Cyberbullying, having secret SM accounts, and addictive SM usage all related to worse MH. Having private vs. public-facing SM accounts was protective. A digital exposure aggregate risk score accounted for sig. variance in MH, beyond non-social screentime and offline adversity.
ExWAS allows us to probe 41 factors rather than focusing only on screentime. And we leverage the large ABCD sample size to run a discovery+validation approach. We identify 35 variables related to worse self-reported mental health (MH) at age ~12yo.
