AWS Solutions Architect community — I’d appreciate your thoughts on a multi-region failover architecture I’m designing across us-east-1 and us-east-2. Current architecture in us-east-1: PostgreSQL → Debezium → Amazon MSK (Kafka) → AWS Glue Streaming → Bronze Layer (Medallion Architecture) → Apache Hudi on Amazon S3 For DR/multi-region failover, I’ve implemented: • S3 cross-region replication from us-east-1 to us-east-2 • Glue Data Catalog replication to us-east-2 using Lambda • AWS Lake Formation metadata, permissions, and governance configuration migration to us-east-2 using Lambda • Infrastructure managed through Terraform (IaC) • Equivalent Amazon MSK infrastructure deployed in us-east-2 • Kafka replication using identical topic names across regions The main problem I’m trying to solve now is automatic regional failover. What AWS regional/global construct or architecture would you recommend for automatically switching the end-to-end streaming pipeline to us-east-2 if us-east-1 becomes unavailable — and then safely failing back when the primary region recovers? I’m particularly interested in handling Debezium/MSK producer routing, Kafka replication, Glue Streaming jobs, consumer offsets/checkpoints, Lake Formation permissions, and avoiding duplicate processing or split-brain scenarios during failover. Would Route 53 + health checks + event-driven orchestration be the right approach, or is there a cleaner AWS-native pattern for coordinating this type of multi-region streaming failover? @awscloud
