Tonight at 10 on @kfor, I'll let you hear from several superintendents from across the state, who say this needs to be corrected, or it will have economic consequences for communities.
“…We have been in touch with US News and World Report to make sure Oklahoma has the rankings for next year.” I asked him how he can explain why U.S. News says the data was not made available in 2023 either. Mail problem then too? He didn’t get back to me on that.
What changed at OSDE between 2022 and 2023? Well, there was an election in Nov. 2022. That meant, in January 2023, Ryan Walters and his administration took over these responsibilities.
Let's summarize where we are now. -Large, suburban schools dropped pretty far in this year's rankings -U.S. News says OSDE didn't allow them, access to the AP data for Oklahoma schools, which makes up the largest portion of a school's score. -OSDE had given access, until 2023.
BUT HERE'S THE THING: In 2023 and 2024, U.S. News tells me the State of Oklahoma “Did not grant U.S. News permission to use their schools' AP data in the rankings.” Meaning... schools "that administered AP exams were not able to be fully credited on their college readiness.”
If you said: "Yes! I see every school had a "College Readiness" score listed in 2022, but only Classen SAS and Booker T. had one in 2024...." ...you'd be correct.
Now the drops start getting bigger. Jenks High went down 45 spots, from #19 in 2022 to #64 in 2024.
Piedmont High went down 22 spots, from #22 in 2022 to #40 in 2024.
Edmond Sante Fe High went down 15 spots, from #7 in 2022 to #22 in 2024.
Bethany High went down 6 spots, from #14 in 2022 to #20 in 2024.
