🚨 Breaking Education News 🚨 A North Carolina high school student was arrested for assaulting his teacher while classmates recorded and laughed. The teenager is now charged with three misdemeanors for assaulting a government official. Unlike typical cases, the district attorney swiftly investigated the incident after the video surfaced. Forsyth County DA Jim O’Neil stated, “Both Sheriff Kimbrell and I spent the morning at Parkland High School talking with the teacher. This isn’t about race or politics; it's about sending a message of support to teachers. Law enforcement and the District Attorney’s Office stand with you and value the work you do.”
@FixingEducation Never in my teaching career have I asked myself, “Maybe this kid needs to be charged as an adult to send a message?” Things aren’t ok. In schools. In society. People complain about schools, but IMO, society & families are expecting teachers to raise their kids.
@FixingEducation I didn’t expect so many likes for my comment. Actually, I thought there’d be pushback. My beginning teacher-self from back in the 2000s would’ve pushed back. We aren’t ok. I should add that today I started a medical leave b/c of the anxiety & depression exacerbated by this job.
@didier_paul @FixingEducation Felony Assault two counts as an adult.
@didier_paul @FixingEducation I agree! Our law enforcement has been so lax the last few years(because of policies voted in by officials) that no one fears they will face any consequences. It’s now time to start making examples out of people and make people think twice (or more) before they break the law!
@didier_paul @FixingEducation This is symptomatic of what we have turned schools into—schools are now food programs, healthcare programs, sex Ed, counseling programs. Now we expect them to do the parents job and raise these kids. Education is the last thought for schools today.
@didier_paul @FixingEducation It’s always somebody else provoked them to act that way, never the student. That’s always the parent’s line.
@didier_paul @FixingEducation If a kid shoots up a school, parents can be charged along with the kid. If a kid assaults a teacher, it seems reasonable to charge the parents as well. If the parents don't instill respect for teachers, and at a minimum, not hit them, then parents should be made accountable
@didier_paul @FixingEducation yep and when the parents get mad they threaten lawsuits and surprise this is where we are!
@didier_paul @FixingEducation Have you noticed raccoons sending their offspring off to another raccoon to raise the offspring? Only the human race has decided this is okay, normal, and standard operating procedure.
