Anecdotally, we had a Spanish teacher in my highschool who was known for giving better grades to the girls and very specific "popular" boys. We took evidence of this to the principal and he said he couldn't do anything about it because she had certain protections (he never elaborated). The sociology teacher didn't give any breaks to any boys. The average grades for girls in her class was an A- and for boys it was a C+. The same complaint was raised about her with evidence and again nothing was done. Multiple studies have shown that in public schools, when names are included, boys generally score lower on their assignments (compared to their female peers) when graded by a female teacher, but the bias disappears when names are removed. Male teachers typically show no significant bias towards either gender. So, yes, the data supports that many female teachers in public schools are in fact punishing boys for being boys, not for their behavior.
