The Biden White House pressured Meta to moderate "vaccine-skeptical" content on WhatsApp This is fundamentally different from social media, since WhatsApp is used for private communication My report, based on legal documents obtained through discovery davidzweig.substack.com/p/biden-white-…
Since there is some confusion in the replies, let me clarify - In the article I explain that other than some blunt spam reduction type tools, Meta was unable to do the granular moderation/analysis that the WH official seemed to desire. The salient point here is their exchange
@davidzweig What's new here? Wasn't this already known? justthenews.com/government/whi…
I often wonder if the people who support these censorship actions or make excuses for the people involved understand that it is bad for everyone. Sure, today you agree with censorship of certain people or an entire political ideology, but political power changes and tomorrow it's you that is being censored, it's your ideas, opinions and arguments that are banned. I can determine for myself what I want to read and believe. We can not allow free speech to only belong to whoever is currently in political power.
@davidzweig Another excellent piece. Your final point is the most important. Who decides what is "misinformation". Gov'ts get things wrong. Medical institutions get things wrong. Open discourse comes w/ short-term risk but long-term, it is the only antidote to correct bad policies.
@davidzweig @StaceyPlaskett To please advise if this person is a real journalist or another so-called journalist.
@davidzweig @MarkSteynOnline We need the YouTube files.
@davidzweig After reading the entire article I didn't find an ounce of "pressure". All that I saw was inquiries into what was possible and what the limitations were. That's a very different thing. Pressure involves some sort of hard request to do something or there will be consequences.
