The results of Flaco’s necropsy confirmed what I expected but they made me sad again all the same. Flaco was unique and special but I don’t think his life was worth more than the lives of native red-tailed hawks and peregrine falcons who are subject to the same hazards. #birdcpp
Hopefully this is another teachable moment about the reckless, excessive use of rodenticides in the city. *Previously unpublished photo of Flaco taken in August 2023 at one of the North Meadows baseball fields in Central Park. Flaco was standing around the shortstop position between second and third bases.
@davidlei There has to be a way to move past poisons literally out in the open!
@davidlei It also seems the feral pigeons he started to catch are what really contributed to his illness from the pigeon herpesvirus🙁 David, any word on when the next batch of Flaco patches are coming? I really would like one and want to be prepared. Thanks always for Flaco photos!🦉🧡
@davidlei I didn’t feel the pain at the pigeons he ate! I grieved Flaco! Maybe because I had seen him in his small cage and felt so bad for him.
@davidlei 🥲💔🦉 It’s hard to know that Flaco was sick his last days. It was hard reading the results. I choose to remember him when he was so happy, enjoying his new life-freedom. He was amazing and beautiful! I still look at his photo every day!
