"Je t'aime, je t'aime" (1968) French science fiction film that explores an encounter with time-travel... The film was directed by Alain Resnais and offers a thought-provoking experience for the audience. The story centers around Claude Ridder (Claude Rich) who had attempted and survived a suicide attempt. He is asked to participate in a time-travel experiment and accepts the offer. The researchers believe the machine works, but cannot be certain as they have only been sending mice through time. Once the machine is activated, Ridder does not return quickly as the mice had done. Ridder re-lives many parts of his past in a fragmented manner. [SPOILERS] Ridder comes to the realization that he had killed his partner, Catrine (Olga Georges-Picot), out of mercy as she was terminally ill. It is revealed that he had previously attempted suicide because he could not live without Catrine. After an hour, the researchers discover Ridder outside having shot himself through the heart again. The audience does not know for certain if he survives this second attempt on his own life.
