My annual letter: danwang.co/2023-letter/ This year I discuss a walk-and-talk; Crumb; running and tangping; Knausgaard; Elon as Palmer Eldritch; quantity has a quality all its own; Chicago as a megacity; memelords; Norton; food as physical pleasure; hunching; and a pause.
@danwwang Enjoyed your thoughtful letter, as always! I’m happy you got to eat your way through Chiang Mai after your W&T
@danwwang Good letter; I think the themes about the Chinese diaspora and where young talent goes, is illuminating (beyond Thailand, I’m interested in who goes to the US, EU, Singapore, Japan, and Africa, and why). Skipped the opera bit.
@danwwang "Even most of the movies released these days are either nationalist blockbusters, sappy romances, or supernatural action flicks." This is such a pungent observation in re: the politics here in the US where one wing would like this menu and other, not so much.
@danwwang @tylercowen heartfelt thanks for doing the letter still!
@danwwang can't wait to read this evening. thank you. The walk and talk with Kevin Kelly and D. Siver?
@danwwang "For better or for worse, I’ve left Twitter. The platform was my reading aggregator for the last ten years to find information-dense articles." What do you use now? Very curious to know :)
@danwwang I wouldn’t have found this without you on X - dont leave! Have ordered my 1st Crumb book following your letter as well 🤓
@danwwang I always loved elephants, so powerful and so graceful and peaceful. Too bad you are not on Twitter/X anymore :(
@danwwang Your 2022 and mid-year letters feel like yesterday, and I thought there would be no letters in 2023. 2023 is a classic; there is no way to miss it
