I think smart organizations take advantage of how other teams "traditionally" discount future picks. Eagles are a good example.

@danielrpopper I think smart organizations don't pass on generational players to draft a guard in the top 10.
@danielrpopper People don't make the distinction in when teams make trades. Teams don't discount those picks by a round unless they desperately want to add a specific player during the draft (as the Eagles did in trading up for Ringo last year, ironically)
@danielrpopper This has been the case forever.
@danielrpopper Roseman would get more value for a top 5 pick. I agree about future picks being discounted. I just don’t think 2024,72 and 2025 64 is enough for a top 5 pick. 2025 would need to be a FRP
@danielrpopper shouldn't taking advantage of a future discount be getting MORE and not less? unlesss you think rodgers doesnt play again that's a return of 2 picks outside the top 50
@danielrpopper I think it's Jimmy Johnson's trade chart that discounts picks one round per year but going by Alec Lewis' piece, trading a 3 this year for a 2 next year is a no brainer. So you're right, there's opportunity there...
@danielrpopper After listening to the Hortiz presser about what they are looking for, that trade just feels like it doesn’t line up with what they would ask for
@danielrpopper Popper you cannot justify trading out of MHJ and Nabers without getting a guaranteed top 50 pick in return
@danielrpopper Agreed. It’s absolutely an edge there to be exploited. But in this case the optimal exploit would be to leverage it to gain even more future capital from the Jets. A team operating on an incredibly short time line.
