I love how writers are like we want 22 episode seasons and actors are like 22 episode seasons are awesome and the crew is like please give us longer seasons so we aren’t unemployed 4 times a year and audiences are pleaseeee give us more episodes and execs are like .. how about 6
“Writers don’t have enough ideas for 22” — baby… hush “Crew doesn’t want that many bc shoot days are too long” — I didn’t say anything about length of shoot day! I’d love a 10-12 hour max “Actors have said 22 is too many” — ok and many have said the opposite! Let tv people do tv
one more thing!!! I don’t believe in the concept of filler episodes. if you come for me with “ugh but then there will be filler episodes” - I love tv! TV to me has always been hanging out with friends. what you consider filler I consider character development and hanging out
one final one more thing: I’m writing a multi cam comedy sample and everyone is hanging out. They’re all hanging out! And when I’m writing I’m like hell yeah these are a bunch of pals hanging out and getting into situations. Because that is what I was raised upon!!!! Amen
@danielleweisber @courtenlow if you have to have company to hang out with get thru a filler episode it’s not good tv. and most filler episodes do zero character development. case in point the spider lizard episode of fringe #neverforget
@danielleweisber truly! like, a short order version of The X-Files would be all alien conspiracy plot and none of the magical Darin Morgan diversions that explored the world and characters like no other
@danielleweisber Some of my fondest college memories were watching the X-files with my four roommates on a Sunday night. It’s one of the few things we did together other than drink. Most seasons were 20+ episodes and they were awesome.
@danielleweisber Star Trek is a great example of this. The big 4 shows (TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT), all had 22-26 episode long seasons. It gave the shows at least one or two episodes to focus on *each* character, showing character growth or a story. Now, Star Trek barely has 12 eps. And it shows.
@danielleweisber Filler episodes are where a lot of character development happens, that’s why so many modern characters are one dimensional
@danielleweisber Big facts! Was saying something similar yesterday. x.com/reallymighty/s…

@danielleweisber On rewatch of Stargate, the planet of the week episodes are way more enjoyable than the beginning and ending of season plot episodes.
